Rainbow Chaser

Shown here are the 3 variations of the same car. In the Turner Prize Exhibition it was entitled ' Evolution of a custom'.

One of the first 50's style sleds to be built in England. The 2 door Volvo 121 was made convertible, chopped, lowered and made to look American rather than Swedish.

This car was the first to take Andy abroad to exhibit. The interior was over 400 hours of hand stitched embroidery on it's white tuck 'n' roll seats.

Rebuilt a second time, but this time being heavily influenced by what was going on in the west coast USA in the very early 60's showcar period.

Frenched canted lights, floating bar grill, padded/sculptured Carson style top chrome wires and caddy tail lights make this a 60's period style kustom.

In this guise the car was featured in the prestigious Custom Rodder (USA).

This is the third guise of this Volvo, rejuvenated once again, but this time specifically as an exhibit for the Turner Prize competition, to show that cars are art.

Rainbow Chaser was owned by Andy from 1981 to 2002. It is now in the hands of a collector who is keeping this car, along with other such vehicles as a '59 Cadillac Convertible, for his daughter to have on her 21st birthday.
